A man in southwest Poland has been arrested on severe allegations of imprisoning and abusing a woman over a span of more than five years. Authorities in Legnica assert that the abuse began in January 2019 and continued until last week when the woman, now 30, was held in unspeakable conditions in a small village near Glogow.

The suspect, identified solely as Mateusz J. due to Poland's privacy regulations, allegedly kept the woman in an unheated, unsanitary building—a shed on his family farm—where she faced continual sexual, physical, and psychological abuse. His parents purportedly claimed ignorance of the harrowing situation.

The situation came to light when the suspect took the woman to a hospital for a dislocated shoulder, and she managed to alert medical staff to her ordeal. The man has been detained and is being questioned, though he denies any wrongdoing. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
