Three police officers were suspended in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district after a murder suspect was found hanging in his cell. The suspect, identified as Balkrishna Jatav alias Sunny, was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, officials reported.
Balkrishna, originally from Gwalior, had been arrested on charges of killing his brother-in-law. Authorities stated he was detained on Saturday, but his family claims he had been in custody for four days prior to his death. This discrepancy has fueled public outcry and protests.
Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh suspended the Civil Lines police station in-charge, an inspector, and two other officers, citing custodial death. Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Thakur indicated it appears to be a suicide. In response to the unrest, a heavy police presence has been deployed around the station.
