The Consulate General of India in Dubai has announced a series of initiatives to assist Indian nationals in taking advantage of the UAE's two-month amnesty scheme, which begins Sunday. This scheme permits foreign residents staying illegally to either legalize their residency status or exit the country without penalties.
The amnesty program covers various visa types, including expired residencies and tourist visas, although those who entered the UAE illegally are excluded. Applicants can have fines and fees waived, and those opting to return to India can apply for an Emergency Certificate (EC). Those preferring to stay can apply for a short-validity passport.
Emergency Certificates will be issued free of charge at facilitation counters set up at the Indian Consulate and Awir Immigration Centre in Dubai, starting September 2. The documents can be collected the day after application, and walk-ins are accepted at BLS centers for short-validity passports. The centers will be open on Sundays from 9 AM to 5 PM during the amnesty period.
