The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Maharashtra's Thane district has awarded compensation exceeding Rs 16 lakh to two men injured in a motorcycle accident.
MACT member S.N. Shah, in an order passed on August 28, directed that Jitesh Ravindra Thackare receive Rs 6.19 lakh and Tanmay Devidas Thakare get Rs 10.9 lakh.
The detailed order was released on Sunday. On March 4, 2019, Jitesh was riding a motorcycle with Tanmay as a pillion passenger when their vehicle collided with a car at Vadpe. Both sustained serious injuries requiring medical attention.
Car owner Dilip Bhudaji Jadhav did not appear before the tribunal, leading to an ex parte decision against him. The insurance company, represented by counsel A K Tiwari, opposed the claim on various grounds.
The compensation, covering future loss of income, pain, and suffering, must be paid with 8% interest from the claim date. Delays beyond a month from the award date will increase the interest to 8.5% per annum.
