Senior IAS officer Amrit Lal Meena on Saturday took over as the new chief secretary of Bihar, succeeding Brajesh Mehrotra who retires on August 31. Meena, a 1989 batch officer, was on deputation to the Centre before this appointment.

On Friday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Meena's repatriation from his role as the secretary in the Union Ministry of Coal to Bihar, following a request from the Nitish Kumar government. This move aims to align state administration with strategic governance plans.

Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Meena met with the chief minister to discuss his new role. He has previously served as the additional chief secretary in the Road Construction Department and held various significant positions in the state government.
