Five people were killed and 46 injured in a Ukrainian attack on the southwestern Russian city of Belgorod late on Friday, according to the local governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov. Among the injured, 37 people, including seven children, were taken to the hospital.
Footage from a dashboard camera, posted on social media, shows a car being blown up on the road, followed by an explosion on the opposite side. Belgorod and other Russian border regions have been frequent targets of Ukrainian attacks in recent months.
Both Ukraine and Russia assert that they do not deliberately target civilians in the ongoing war, which began in February 2022 when Russia initiated a military incursion into Ukraine, referred to by Moscow as a 'special military operation.'
