Israeli Forces Eliminate Key Hamas Commander in Jenin Amid Rising Tensions
Israeli military forces killed Wassem Hazem, a local Hamas commander in Jenin, during a major operation in the West Bank. The operation, which involved airstrikes and armored units, led to the deaths of two other Hamas members and escalated hostilities in the region. Over 660 Palestinians have been killed since the Gaza war began last October.
Israeli forces killed Wassem Hazem, a local commander of the Islamist movement Hamas, in the flashpoint city of Jenin on Friday. The Israeli military confirmed Hazem's involvement in shooting and bombing attacks in the Palestinian territory.
Two other Hamas gunmen attempting to escape were killed by a drone. Weapons, explosives, and large sums of cash were found in their vehicle. Hamas confirmed the deaths, identifying the men as members of its Al-Qassam Brigades armed wing.
In Zababdeh village, a bullet-riddled car was found where the men were killed. Israeli forces continued their large-scale operation across Jenin, Tulkarm, and the Jordan Valley, using armored carriers, helicopters, and drones. The escalation coincides with ongoing conflicts in Gaza and intensified clashes with Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border.
