A tragic incident unfolded at a chemical and fertiliser factory in Muthiahpuram on Friday evening, where a worker lost his life due to an ammonia gas leak.

The deceased, identified as A Hariharan, aged 24, was addressing issues with a faulty pipeline when ammonia gas suddenly spurted out, leading to his instant death.

Two other workers, S Dhanraj of Thoothukudi and C Marimuthu of Tiruppur, who inhaled the gas, have been admitted to a government hospital and are currently receiving treatment, according to police reports.
