German Authorities Alert Businesses Over Dangerous Parcels
German authorities have warned businesses about dangerous parcels containing incendiary devices. A letter sent to companies indicated that these packages caught fire while being transported across Europe and may still be in circulation. Measures have been taken by logistics companies to mitigate risks, but the sender remains unidentified.
German authorities have issued a stern warning to businesses about incendiary devices concealed within packages, which have ignited during transit across Europe. This alarming information was conveyed in a letter to companies, as seen by Reuters on Friday.
According to a spokesperson for the federal criminal police (BKA), the letter, sent to German firms and business associations, outlined instances of several consignments meant to disrupt logistics infrastructure, catching fire while en route through various European nations.
The incendiary parcels included electronic consumer products and liquid containers, with the potential for more unconventional devices to emerge. DHL Express confirmed two such incidents affecting their network, while Lufthansa Cargo reported no impact but remained in close contact with authorities. German news outlet dpa initially reported on the government alert, which was particularly directed at logistics and freight companies.
