Indigenous Tribal Leaders Demand Talks Only With Central Government
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), representing the Kuki community, insists on holding talks solely with the Central government, rejecting negotiations with the Manipur state administration. This move underscores the growing rift between the Kuki and Meitei communities, following ethnic clashes that have resulted in significant casualties and displacement.

In a definitive stance, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) has declared that any future dialogues will only occur with the Central government on their terms, discounting discussions with intermediaries appointed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Chief Minister Singh had earlier revealed to PTI that he assigned Naga MLA Dinganglung Gangmei as an emissary to facilitate talks between Kuki-zo and Meitei leaders. However, ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong stated that the Kuki-zo community demands negotiations exclusively with the Centre, advocating for separation from the Manipur state government.
This position highlights the deepening ethnic rifts following clashes that began in May, causing over 200 fatalities and displacing thousands. The Chief Minister remains optimistic about restoring peace, while the ITLF emphasizes the necessity for transparency and accountability from the state government.
