Two men have been apprehended on charges of abetment of suicide after two Dalit girls, aged 15 and 18, were discovered hanging in an orchard, authorities reported on Friday.

The bodies, found on Tuesday, prompted an immediate investigation. The accused were booked under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint from the families of the deceased, stated Superintendent of Police (SP) Alok Priyadarshi. 'The suspects are currently in custody and will be formally arrested after further interrogation,' he added.

According to the police, the girls had left their homes around 10 pm on August 26 to visit a nearby temple for Janmashtami celebrations, but they never returned. A panel of doctors confirmed the cause of death as suicide, with no indications of physical assault, corroborating the police's investigative findings.
