Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday endorsed the sentiments of President Droupadi Murmu, who expressed her distress over crimes against women. Thackeray, however, criticized the timing of her remarks, suggesting that earlier intervention might have prevented further incidents.
In a signed article for PTI, President Murmu expressed that India must break free from a mindset that devalues women and treat them as equals. Her remarks come in the wake of a series of violent crimes against women, including the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata.
Reacting to Murmu's comments, Thackeray accused his former ally, the BJP, of using divisive tactics to manipulate societal sectors. He called for the implementation of a 'Shakti law' with harsher penalties for crimes against women, emphasizing that strong laws are futile if enforcement is weak.
