Twenty-five candidates participating in a constable recruitment exam for the excise department in Palamu district fainted during a physical test on Thursday, according to officials.

A total of 60 aspirants lost consciousness over the course of the last three days while running at Chiyanki airport in Medininagar, officials stated.

Vishwatma Kumar from Chapra district, Bihar, reported he fainted after running 400 meters.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Medininagar) Manibhusan Prasad told PTI that breathlessness might be the reason behind the candidates fainting. Male aspirants were required to run 10,000 meters, while female candidates had to cover 5,000 meters, he said.

The recruitment process is set to continue until September 9. Two of those who fainted are in serious condition and were transferred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi. The remaining candidates were admitted to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital in Medininagar.
