The National Green Tribunal has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board for failing to submit a report on illegal mining activities in Laksar town, Haridwar district.
The Tribunal had previously instructed the board to take action against the violators and provide an action taken report by May 9. However, the UKPCB did not comply, leading to the penalty.
During the hearing, the Tribunal's bench, led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, noted that the board's counsel requested an adjournment, stating that notices were about to be issued. The Tribunal granted an extension until December 3 for the report, conditional on the board depositing Rs 25,000 within two weeks.
