In a significant development, the Delhi High Court on Thursday prohibited six students from attending classes at St. Stephen's College, where they had received provisional admissions based on Delhi University's (DU) seat allocation, until further notice.
The decision came as a result of St. Stephen's College challenging an interim order by a single judge that directed the college to admit these students. A bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, highlighted concerns that the provisional admissions effectively granted the final relief sought by the students in their main petition.
The court criticized Delhi University for allotting students beyond the sanctioned strength and emphasized the potential harm to the students' careers. It advanced the hearing date to address the college's claims of a violation of natural justice and incorrect seat allocation by the university.
