Iraq's air defenses shot down an unmanned drone on Thursday in the northern city of Kirkuk, two police sources told Reuters, triggering an investigation into the identity of the drone.
Initial investigations by an Iraqi military colonel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the debris pointed to a Turkish military armed drone. The incident caused a fire near residential areas in the center of Kirkuk, but firefighters managed to extinguish it without any reported casualties.
There has been no immediate response from Turkish authorities regarding the incident.
