In a significant breakthrough, Navi Mumbai police claimed to have cracked a double murder case following the arrest of five individuals. According to additional commissioner of police (crime), Deepak Sakore, Amir Anwar Khanjada (42) and Sumit Babulal Jain (39) went missing on August 21 after leaving for a property deal meeting.

Their car, tracked to Khopoli via GPS, was found with blood stains and two empty cartridges inside. Eight teams were formed for the investigation. On August 23, Jain's body was discovered in Gagod Budruk village, Pen tehsil, exhibiting bullet wounds. Khanjada's body was later found in the Karnala Bird Sanctuary on Thursday. CCTV footage provided crucial evidence leading to the arrest of Vitthal Baban Nakade (43), Jaysingh alias Raja Madhu Mudaliar (38), Anand alias Andry Rajan Cruz (39), Virendra alias Gorya Bharat Kadam (24), and Ankush alias Ankya Prakash Sitapure (35) on August 26.

An ongoing financial dispute between Nakade and the victims over a land purchase culminated in the crime. Authorities seized two cars, a motorbike, a knife, and a revolver from the accused, who were remanded in police custody until August 31. All five have prior criminal records, and further investigations are underway.
