The Pune Police have registered charges of forgery and criminal conspiracy against IPS officer Bhagyashree Navtake, who led an inquiry into an alleged Rs 1,200 crore scam involving a credit cooperative society, according to officials on Wednesday.

This action follows directions from the Maharashtra Home Department after a CID report indicated procedural lapses by Navtake and unidentified others during the 2021-21 investigation into the Bhaichand Hirachand Raisoni Credit Society.

Navtake has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those for criminal conspiracy and forgery. The scam, originating in 2015, allegedly defrauded numerous individuals by promising high returns on fixed deposits.
