The Madhya Pradesh police have apprehended Haji Shahzad Ali, the principal suspect in the recent stone-pelting incident at a Chhatarpur police station. The arrest took place on Tuesday, confirmed local authorities.
To prevent Ali from fleeing the country, a lookout circular had been issued. Additionally, the local administration demolished his home, citing unauthorized construction. The unrest erupted following allegedly inflammatory remarks by Hindu seer Ramgiri Maharaj in Maharashtra's Nashik district.
Approximately 300-400 protesters led by religious leaders assembled at the Kotwali police station on August 21, demanding legal action against Maharaj. The scene escalated into violence, resulting in stone-pelting. Further legal proceedings will take place after Ali's court appearance. Efforts continue to apprehend other suspects involved.
