A Bangladeshi student studying at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar in Assam, was sent back to her country after reacting with a 'love' emoji to an anti-India post on social media, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta emphasized that this action was not a formal deportation but a measure taken in consultation with Bangladeshi authorities. Maisha Mahajabin, a fourth-semester student in the Electronic and Communication department, was escorted to Bangladesh via the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Karimganj district.

Mahatta explained that Mahajabin had reacted with a 'love' symbol on a Facebook post by NIT Silchar alumnus Sahadat Hussain Alfi, now residing in Bangladesh. The reaction sparked significant anger among individuals who viewed the post. Mahajabin had also requested permission to return home. Meanwhile, concerns linger about whether she will come back to complete her studies.

Suvasish Choudhury, spokesperson for the Hindu Rakkhi Dal, reported the anti-India post to police, prompting action. Mahatta also issued warnings to other Bangladeshi students at the institution to refrain from anti-Indian activities.
