Tensions Rise as Philippines Condemns China's Actions in South China Sea
The Philippine government has condemned China's recent aggressive actions in the South China Sea. Chinese aircraft allegedly made unsafe maneuvers while vessels reportedly obstructed Philippine resupply missions. Manila calls for diplomacy, while China claims its actions are justified. The incidents have heightened tensions amid ongoing territorial disputes.
The Philippine government slammed China on Monday for what it described as "repeated aggressive, unprofessional and illegal" actions in the South China Sea. The criticism followed a series of clashes and incidents in both air and sea over the past week.
According to the Philippines' national maritime council, Chinese aircraft made unsafe maneuvers against a civilian aircraft patrolling the Scarborough shoal and Subi reef. Over the weekend, Chinese vessels allegedly blocked, rammed, and fired water cannons at a government fisheries vessel during a resupply mission to Filipino fishermen in Sabina shoal.
Labeling the actions as "alarming," the maritime council questioned China's commitment to de-escalate tensions and urged Beijing to "return to the path of constructive dialogue." Meanwhile, the Philippine Defence Minister described the actions as "patently illegal," emphasizing the need for preparedness.
