The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) has taken suo motu cognisance of a viral video circulating on social media. The video allegedly features a man announcing a Rs 10 crore reward for raping the minor daughter of a top TMC leader. The Commission has urged police to take immediate action.

According to the WBCPCR, the man in the video is believed to be from Malancha in the Minakhan block of North 24 Parganas district. The WBCPCR emphasized that such a call for violence is not only illegal but could also send a dangerous message to society.

The Commission's chairperson, Tulika Das, has written to the SP of Basirhat police district, requesting immediate intervention and the submission of an action taken report within two days. TMC MP Derek O'Brien has also condemned the video, urging for an end to threats against children.
