A Pakistani judge on Monday acquitted Farhan Asif, a web developer, who was charged with spreading misinformation that ignited recent riots in the UK, officials revealed.
The acquittal comes just days after Asif was arrested in Lahore on cyberterrorism charges. The 32-year-old had posted misleading information on social media but deleted it six hours later upon realizing its inaccuracy.
The Federal Investigation Agency accused Asif of spreading false information regarding a British teenager involved in a stabbing incident that resulted in three deaths and ten injuries. Defense lawyer Rana Rizwan reported that investigators found no evidence to support the intentional spread of misinformation, leading to Asif's release.
