In a significant development, the Chhattisgarh government announced the transfer of cases related to the controversial Mahadev betting app scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma confirmed the move on Monday, following a notification issued by the state government last week.
The alleged scam, which gained prominence during the Lok Sabha elections, has named several high-profile individuals, including former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, in the FIR. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been investigating money laundering aspects of the scam for more than a year, tracing the operations to multiple states and even foreign countries.
Sharma emphasized that the government will take stringent action against those involved, including extraditing key individuals from overseas. The investigation will cover numerous offences under the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act, aiming to dismantle the syndicate's operations across illegal online betting platforms.
