(Adds quote, background) DUBAI, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Iran stated on Monday that Israel has lost its deterrence capability following significant attacks by Hezbollah.

Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel early Sunday, prompting Israel's military to retaliate with air strikes on Lebanon. According to analysts, it marks one of the most significant clashes in over ten months. The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, commented on X that Israel could not predict or prevent Hezbollah's response, indicating a shift in the strategic balance in the region.

Hezbollah's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, noted that the attack was in retaliation for the assassination of senior commander Fuad Shukr and was executed as planned. The exchanges have resulted in casualties on both sides, with three deaths reported in Lebanon and one in Israel. Both sides seem cautious about further escalation but have not ruled out additional strikes.
