Philippines Condemns China's Aggressive Actions in South China Sea
The Philippine government criticized China for its aggressive actions in the South China Sea, citing unsafe maneuvers by Chinese aircraft and confrontations at sea. Manila reaffirms its commitment to diplomatic efforts and calls on China to return to constructive dialogue. Both countries have blamed each other for recent maritime incidents.
The Philippine government slammed China on Monday for 'repeated aggressive, unprofessional and illegal' actions in the South China Sea following a series of clashes over the past week.
According to the Philippines' national maritime council, Chinese aircraft conducted unsafe maneuvers against a civilian aircraft patrolling over the Scarborough shoal and Subi reef. On Sunday, Chinese vessels also 'blocked, rammed, and fired water cannons' at a government fisheries vessel during a resupply mission in Sabina shoal.
These actions are 'alarming' and challenge China's commitment to de-escalation and constructive dialogue, the maritime council stated. Philippine Defence Minister Gilberto Teodoro labeled China's actions as 'patently illegal.' The Philippines maintains its diplomatic stance and calls on China to return to the path of constructive dialogue.
