Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised serious allegations that recent crimes against women in the state are part of a 'bigger intention of grabbing land and threatening the identity of the Assamese people.'

Hinting at 'political patronage,' Sarma suggested that there's a shift of financial power away from the Assamese community.

During a press interaction, he claimed that these crimes, including rape, are driven by this agenda, stating that the design has been underway for decades. He linked the recent incidents to a historical context dating back 30-35 years, including the Assam Agitation against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

Sarma alleged that a 'big conspiracy of grabbing land' is being executed through these crimes, citing the case of a 14-year-old rape victim in Nagaon's Dhing area, which has led to significant community unrest. He also highlighted a pattern of demographic changes in villages that force residents to leave.

Pointing out apparent legal and financial disparities, Sarma noted that criminals often have robust legal support, while victims lack resources. He mentioned government efforts to protect certain areas and communities and called for public unity to support stringent government measures.

In conclusion, Sarma emphasized the importance of societal unity and peaceful approaches to safeguard Assamese land and identity against these alleged threats.
