Israel and Hezbollah Clash: Pre-Emptive Strikes and Regional Tensions
Israel launched pre-emptive airstrikes on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, responding to rocket and drone attacks the militant group claimed were in retaliation for a top commander's death. The exchanges risk igniting a broader conflict involving the US, Iran, and other militant factions. Tensions remain high, with efforts to mediate ongoing in Egypt.

Israel launched a wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon early Sunday in what it said was a pre-emptive strike on Hezbollah. The militant group claimed it had launched hundreds of rockets and drones to avenge the killing of one of its top commanders last month.
The heavy exchange of fire threatened to trigger an all-out war, potentially drawing in the United States, Iran, and militant groups across the region. It could also undermine efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israel has been at war with the Palestinian group Hamas for over 10 months.
By mid-morning, the exchange appeared to have ceased, with both sides confining their attacks to military targets. However, the situation remained tense, and the extent of casualties and damage was not immediately clear.
