The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a series of raids on Sunday targeting RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, officials revealed. The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institution.

Teams of CBI officers, accompanied by central forces, raided the premises of former principal Sandip Ghosh and ex-MSVP Sanjay Vashisth. The searches also extended to the homes and offices of suppliers connected to the hospital. Ghosh was reportedly questioned at his Beliaghata residence from 8 am, while other officers interrogated Vashisth and other medical staff.

The probe into the financial misconduct comes on the heels of a troubling incident where a postgraduate trainee woman doctor was raped and murdered on August 9, resulting in nationwide protests. The CBI's investigation into both the financial irregularities and the murder case was ordered by the Calcutta High Court.
