The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday initiated search operations at the premises of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh, ex-MSVP Sanjay Vashisth, and 13 others in Kolkata, officials confirmed. This move is part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the respected medical college.
The anti-corruption unit of the CBI expanded their search to the residences and offices of individuals supplying materials for patient care and management. Seven officers from the central investigative agency have been interrogating Ghosh at his Beliaghata home since 8 am, while others are questioning Vashisth and another forensic department professor.
Accompanied by a significant contingent of central forces, the CBI team arrived at Ghosh's residence at 6 am but faced a delay of an hour and a half before being allowed entry. Additional searches were conducted at his office and the academic building's canteen. The operation stems from a Calcutta High Court directive to probe financial misconduct and the shocking rape and murder of a trainee doctor, which sparked widespread protests.
