CBI Raids Former RG Kar Medical College Principal's Premises Over Financial Irregularities

The CBI conducted a search operation at the premises of ex-RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh in connection with financial irregularities. Fourteen other locations were also searched. The case was highlighted following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor, prompting national protests and a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched a search operation at the premises of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, on Sunday. The operation is linked to alleged financial irregularities during his tenure, according to officials.

The central agency also conducted searches at 14 other locations within the city, targeting the accused and their associates. This development follows widespread scrutiny over the financial dealings at the medical institute.

The medical college attracted national attention after a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in a seminar hall on August 9. The incident led to the arrest of traffic police volunteer Sanjay Roy and ignited protests across the country. Under the directive of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI has now registered cases for both the killing and the alleged financial misconduct.
