Prosecutors in Italy announced on Saturday the commencement of an investigation into culpable shipwreck and multiple manslaughter after a superyacht capsized during a storm off the coast of Sicily, tragically claiming seven lives. Among the deceased are British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his daughter.
Termini Imerese prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio confirmed the investigation's launch but noted that no suspects have been identified at this stage.
"We are only in the initial phase of the investigation. We can't exclude any sort of development at present," he stated during a news conference. Cartosio emphasized that the investigation will meticulously consider all potential elements of responsibility, including those of the ship's captain, crew, supervisory personnel, and the ship-builder.
