Prosecutors in Italy announced Saturday the commencement of an investigation into the culpable shipwreck and multiple manslaughter following a superyacht capsizing during a storm off the Sicilian coast, claiming seven lives, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his daughter.

Termini Imerese Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio confirmed the probe but stated no suspects have been identified as the investigation is still in its early phase. All possible elements of responsibility, including the ship's captain, crew, and manufacturer, will be examined.

Authorities are keen to understand how an 'unsinkable' vessel, built by Perini Navi, succumbed while nearby boats were unaffected. Preliminary findings suggest a severe 'downburst' wind event might have been the cause, whereas initial Civil protection officials posited a waterspout.

The yacht, identified as the 56-metre Bayesian, was carrying 10 crew members and 12 passengers. Rescue efforts spanned four days to recover all victims, with bodies found in proximity to exits, implying a desperate bid to escape. The final victim, Mike Lynch's daughter Hannah, 18, was retrieved Thursday.
