Women police in Tamil Nadu will be entitled to a year's maternity leave, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Friday. Upon resuming work, these officers can choose their posting location for a three-year period to help nurture their children.

This initiative follows the DMK government's 2021 increase of maternity leave from nine months to one year for state employees. The announcement was made during the distribution of medals to meritorious police officials at Rajarathinam stadium.

Additionally, the government will enhance the professional skills of women police to tackle crimes against women and children, as well as cyber crimes. Stalin stressed the importance of police duties in protecting the public and reducing crime, aiming to transform Tamil Nadu into a state free from drugs and crimes.
