A government school teacher, Avinash Kumar, fell into the Ganga River near Patna on Friday and was swept away by strong currents, according to officials.
The Patna district administration reported that the incident occurred around 8 am at Nasriganj ghat while Kumar was taking a boat to reach his school in Chhota Kasimchak locality. He tripped and fell into the swollen riverbed, which is particularly hazardous during the rainy season.
State disaster response personnel have been deployed to search for Kumar, who is from Fatuha block in Patna district. Senior officials are closely monitoring the rescue operations. Meanwhile, other teachers accompanying Kumar have blamed the boatman's carelessness for the mishap and have demanded school closures until weather conditions improve.
