In a significant development, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi announced that the city's elderly would once again receive their pensions after a five-month hiatus. She accused the BJP-led central government of withholding these payments during that period, causing considerable distress among senior citizens.

Atishi broke the news via a post on the social media platform X, highlighting that the Kejriwal administration had overcome considerable hurdles to restart the pension scheme. She emphasized that the past five months' arrears are being deposited into the bank accounts of the eligible elderly residents.

Under the scheme, seniors aged between 60 and 69 are entitled to Rs 2,000 per month, with an additional Rs 500 for SC/ST/Minority community members. Those aged 70 and above receive Rs 2,500 per month. Eligibility requires applicants to be over 60 and have an annual family income of less than Rs one lakh.
