The Delhi High Court deliberated on pivotal cases on Thursday, August 22, addressing a variety of significant issues. The court sought the Centre's response on a public interest litigation that questioned the appointment of the executive director at Union Bank of India earlier this year. In another key decision, the court reserved its judgment on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Kumar Pathak's plea, which requested permission for a physical meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar jail.
The court also commanded an 'X' user to issue an apology to Alt-News co-founder Mohammad Zubair for making an offensive comment on the social media platform. Further, the court mandated that authorities ensure no trees are cut without following due process near the protected monuments of Mazar-e-Ghalib and Chaunsath Khamba.
Additionally, the court reprimanded the Delhi Development Authority over the tragic deaths of a mother and son due to a waterlogged open drain last month, citing lack of supervision in the contractor's work. In an educational directive, the court required every private unaided recognised school in the capital to appoint a dedicated nodal officer to oversee the admission process for students under the Economically Weaker Section/Disadvantaged Group category.
