In a tragic incident in northern Nigeria, gunmen killed at least 10 farmers in an attack on a village in Niger state on Wednesday, according to local residents.
Known locally as bandits, these armed gangs have been frequently raiding communities in northwest Nigeria, targeting residents, farmers, students, and motorists for ransom. Residents reported to Reuters that the gunmen attacked farmers in the Allawa community of Shiroro local government area late Wednesday.
'The farmers were trapped and 10 killed yesterday evening in their respective farms,' Hassan Abubakar stated. Another resident, Indamishe Auwal, who helped remove the bodies, expressed deep sorrow and highlighted the ongoing security challenges. 'Shiroro is bleeding. Our people are suffering and bandits have taken over our farmlands,' Auwal said. The Niger state police spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
