A drone attack ignited a fire at a military facility in Russia's Volgograd region on Thursday, according to regional officials and the Ministry of Defence. The attack targeted a military air base near Marinovka, causing thick black smoke and explosions but no casualties.
Regional Governor Andrei Bocharov confirmed the incident on Telegram, noting that the 'defense ministry facility' was on fire. While Bocharov did not specify the damage, Russian Telegram channels reported that drones aimed at a military base in the village of Oktyabrsky.
Ukraine did not acknowledge the attack, which follows a series of intensified assaults, including drone strikes on Moscow. Videos on social media showed smoke and explosions near the air base. NASA fire satellites recorded fires around the base's apron, where fighter jets are parked.
