Biden and Netanyahu Engage Over Gaza Corridor Dispute
U.S. President Joe Biden is set to discuss with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about keeping forces along the Egypt-Gaza corridor. Biden aims to persuade Netanyahu to soften Israel's stance as Hamas demands a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in ongoing peace talks.
U.S. President Joe Biden is poised to discuss the contentious issue of the Egypt-Gaza corridor with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, according to a report by Axios citing an unnamed source.
Biden intends to urge Netanyahu to ease Israel's current position on keeping forces deployed along this critical land corridor. The topic has become a central point in the dialogue aimed at halting the hostilities that have spanned the last 10 months.
Hamas is pushing for a comprehensive Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, including the 14.5-kilometer Philadelphi Corridor along Gaza's southern border with Egypt. Israel, on the other hand, wishes to maintain control of the corridor, citing the destruction of weapons-smuggling tunnels as a primary reason for their stance.
