A 22-year-old woman died after leaping from a coaching centre building near Aeroplane crossing here, allegedly following a confrontation with her purported boyfriend, police stated on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Deepali Tripathi, was studying for competitive exams and resided in Allahpur locality.

Her father, Bhupendra Nath Tripathi, alleges that Saurabh Singh, along with three men, molested her at the coaching centre and compelled her to jump from the corridor, according to police. On Tuesday, Deepali was reportedly buying a book on University Road when Saurabh snatched her mobile phone and smashed it on the ground, her father stated.

Saurabh and his friends allegedly assaulted her, and the incident was captured on CCTV, police confirmed.

However, Colonalganj Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Kumar Yadav asserted that Deepali and Saurabh were romantically involved and an argument over her supposed relationship with another person led to the incident. Yadav mentioned that Deepali met Saurabh at Aeroplane Square to discuss the matter, which escalated into a heated dispute. She was subsequently taken to a private hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. The police have seized the broken mobile phone and arrested Saurabh Singh.
