The Madras High Court has mandated the Tamil Nadu government to ensure the development of motorable roads in Kalvarayan Hills, located in the Kallakurichi district.
A division bench, comprising Justices S M Subramaniam and V Sivagnanam, issued this directive while continuing proceedings related to the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy that claimed more than 60 lives.
The court emphasized that the government must also ensure the availability of adequate doctors, nurses, and teachers in the region's Primary Health Centres and schools. During the hearing, Additional Advocate General J Ravindran presented a status report, stating the government's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure. After concerns were raised regarding the lack of essential documents for residents, the bench directed the state to conduct a special camp within four weeks to provide ration cards, Aadhar cards, and Voter ID cards. The case is scheduled for further hearing on September 19.
