Escalating Hostilities: Israeli Strikes on Hezbollah's Weapons Depots in Lebanon
The Israeli military has intensified its bombing of Hezbollah's weapons storage facilities in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, escalating the conflict with the Iranian-backed militia. The ongoing hostilities have left at least two dead and 19 injured. Hezbollah responded by firing rockets at an Israeli logistics site in the Golan Heights.
In a stark escalation of regional hostilities, the Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it had targeted Hezbollah's weapons storage facilities in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley overnight. This latest series of airstrikes is part of Israel's ongoing efforts to cripple the powerful Iranian-backed militia's arsenal.
The airstrikes came just hours after Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant stated that such attacks are a precautionary measure against potential future conflicts. In retaliation, Hezbollah launched Katyusha rockets at an Israeli military logistics site in the Golan Heights, signaling a sharp uptick in the confrontations between the two forces.
Hezbollah and the Israeli military have been engaged in a protracted conflict for the past 10 months, parallel to the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas. The violence has claimed more than 600 lives in Lebanon since last October, including over 400 Hezbollah combatants and 132 civilians. Most of the crossfire has occurred along Lebanon's southern border, although some strikes have reached deeper into Lebanon, notably the Bekaa Valley.
