The oil products tanker Sounion was attacked by two small boats in the Red Sea off Yemen, striking the vessel with three projectiles, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
UKMTO clarified there were no casualties among the 25 crew members onboard, although the Greek-flagged vessel reported it was no longer under command. Reports indicate the vessel was approached by two small craft carrying approximately 15 individuals. A brief exchange of small arms fire occurred.
The confrontation happened 77 nautical miles west of Yemen's port of Hodeidah. British security firm Ambrey highlighted a separate incident in the same area but withheld further details. The operating company of the tanker was not available for immediate comment.
