The agency also claimed the scientist transferred funds to the Ukrainian military and gathered intelligence on the Russian armed forces. The suspect has reportedly confessed to these activities.
Details regarding the timing of the arrest remain unclear. Russian media released footage purportedly showing the scientist's arrest in a snow-covered city, implying the detention may have taken place some time ago.
