Assam Director General of Police G P Singh asserted on Monday that any attempt to disrupt peace in the state would be thwarted by security forces.

His comments came in response to the banned ULFA(I)'s purported email on Independence Day, announcing the planting of 24 bombs in various areas, including multiple locations in Guwahati.

Over the past two days, ten "bomb-like substances" have been recovered, including four in Guwahati.

"The state has been witnessing terrorist activities for the last 40 years. We have now reached a stage where such activities are almost nearing an end. We will take stringent measures against those attempting to bring back the days of violence and terror," Singh told reporters at a program.

The DGP emphasized that the force was strengthening its traditional policing duties to tackle criminal elements. "Some may try to engage in terror activities to sway our efforts. But such attempts will not succeed," he asserted.

Singh also dismissed allegations of an intelligence failure concerning the recovery of "bomb-like substances" from different locations.
