China and Philippines Clash in disputed South China Sea
China's Coast Guard accused a Philippine vessel of deliberately colliding with a Chinese vessel in a disputed South China Sea area. China also reported that two Philippine Coast Guard vessels intruded without permission. In response, China warned the Philippines to stop its activities or face consequences.
China's Coast Guard has accused a Philippine vessel of deliberately colliding with a Chinese vessel in an incident described as 'unprofessional and dangerous,' according to statements released on Monday.
China's maritime security services noted that, following the collision, the same Philippine vessel moved into waters near the Second Thomas Shoal after being blocked from Sabina Shoal. In addition, two Philippine Coast Guard vessels reportedly 'illegally intruded' into adjacent waters early Monday, without Beijing's consent.
Spokesperson Gan Yu criticized the Philippines for repeated provocations and for violating bilateral temporary agreements. Measures have been taken against the Philippine ships, and China has warned that further provocation will result in severe consequences. Recent tensions follow a provisional agreement reached in July aimed at curbing such incidents.
