Assam Police has established multiple special investigation teams (SITs) in 10 districts following the discovery of 'bomb-like substances.' This move comes after the banned ULFA(I) claimed responsibility for planting explosives in 24 locations, with the intent of triggering serial blasts on Independence Day, according to senior officials.

Special DGP Harmeet Singh is touring the state, conducting security meetings with local police officials to address the major intelligence lapse. This incident has spurred the opposition to demand the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who currently holds the Home portfolio.

Singh stated, 'SITs have been formed to investigate each of the 10 cases. Our top priority is the safety and security of the public, and no one involved in planting these materials will be spared.' The investigations will be led by an additional superintendent of police in each district, with oversight from higher-ranking officers in Guwahati.

Authorities have recovered 'bomb-like substances' from multiple locations, including four in Guwahati and others in Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, and Nalbari districts. Singh affirmed that the SITs are conducting thorough investigations to determine the nature of the substances and hold those responsible accountable.

Singh's review meetings have already covered several districts, and he plans to visit others in the coming days. Police have detained several individuals for questioning, and a reward has been announced for information leading to the identification of those involved in the plot.
