Four months after the passing of education baron Shivajirao Jondhale, police in Dombivli have filed an FIR against his second wife and four of her relatives on allegations of culpable homicide, a police official confirmed on Sunday.

Investigations are still underway, and no arrests have yet been made following the FIR, which was registered on Saturday.

Jondhale, a cancer patient, passed away on April 19, reportedly due to insufficient medical treatment after being transferred from a hospital to his home. From April 6 to April 16, he was allegedly held captive, according to the FIR, which was lodged based on a complaint by Jondhale's son.

Authorities, quoting the FIR, indicated that property usurpation was the suspected motive.

The accused, identified as Jondhale's second wife and her four relatives, face charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 304 (culpable homicide), 387 (attempting extortion through fear of death), and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) among others.

The FIR had to be registered under the IPC, as Jondhale's death occurred on April 19, weeks prior to the enactment of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which replaced the British-era penal code.
