Sudan's ongoing conflict has claimed its latest victims as paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) massacred at least 85 people in a central village. The assault, described by residents and authorities, saw homes looted and burned, with women and children among the dead.
According to Sudan's Foreign Ministry, RSF fighters launched an indiscriminate attack on Galgani village in Sennar province in late July, targeting unarmed residents who resisted attempts to abduct and sexually assault women and girls. Over 150 villagers were reportedly wounded in the brutality.
The attack occurred hours after villagers repelled an initial assault by a small group of RSF fighters. Hundreds of RSF fighters returned with automatic rifles and heavy weapons to overpower the villagers. The fallout has been severe, with the local medical center receiving at least 80 bodies.
